Colombo, January 6 (Daily Mirror) - It is preferable for the government to implement a more effective programme instead of merely targeting the cleaning of three-wheeler parks, buses and businesses, under the guise of the 'Clean Sri Lanka' programme, Sri Lanka Podujana Permuna (SLPP) MP Namal Rajapaksa said.
Addressing the media, he said that the government should prioritise addressing the essential needs of the people and ensure the protection of passengers.
"However, the ultimate outcome of this programme seems to focus on restricting the daily livelihoods of citizens rather than being a true cleaning initiative. The laws must be practical. The three-wheeler drivers who supported the National People's Power (NPP) with the compass symbol will reveal the direction that the current government is heading to," he said.
"The people in the country are currently under immense pressure. They are struggling to obtain basic necessities like rice and salt and to secure their daily income. The government had promised to generate employment opportunities and attract investors, but people now see no clear visions for job creation. There is no plan in sight to reduce the cost of living or provide tax concessions," he added.
It is evident that the accusations recently made by the government have backfired, becoming accusations against themselves. Furthermore, the promises they made during the election have been limited to political rhetoric and have not been fulfilled, MP Namal Rajapaksa added.
