Legal action against buses overcharging fares from today

Colombo, October 2 (Daily Mirror) - Legal action will be taken from today against buses that charge more than the revised bus fares, the National Transport Commission (NTC) said.

The NTC requests the passengers to inform them about the buses charging more than the announced fares.

Passengers can submit complaints to the NTC's hotline 1955 or WhatsApp number 071 25 95 555 regarding inter-provincial private buses operating in this way.

NTC Director General Ms. Naomi Jayawardena said that complaints can be made through hotline number 1958 regarding buses of the Sri Lanka Transport Board and to the relevant provincial authority regarding Provincial bus service providers.

Bus fares were revised by 4.24% with effect from last night.

Get them to issue a ticket in the first place. The conductors have been cheating for so long that nobody knows the correct bus fares anymore!.

Please make it compulsory for the buses to have their pricelist prominently pasted so that passengers will have an idea about the charges. The price list must be obtained from the NTC with the route number printed on top

stop this nonsense and try and bring bus fares to an "Even Number" .. as at yesterday the minimum fare was reduced to 27/=.. do you think the conductor is going to give the passenger the balance 3? Nope.. that'll never happen.. he will probably give the 2 and pocket out in 1 rupee.. so forget legal action and as a priority regularize all fares to an even amount so that the balance could be properly given to the passenger.

@Thushan, the solution to these balance issues, should be pre-paid card system. It will also reduce the malpractices...and corruption...no one is going to waste time in complaining for few rupees...or face inquiry committee...etc... better change the system of using cash...
