Former State Minister Lohan Ratwatte was arrested by police a short while ago.

According to police, the former minister was arrested in Kandy following the discovery of an unregistered car at his wife’s residence in the Mirihana area, Nugegoda.

Sad when difference of remand and prison not known. You are a remand prisoner if you haven't been found guilty of an offence and only remanded awaiting completion of inquiries. Being found guilty and convicted is when you go to prison for the stipulated term. Except under PTA you cannot be remanded for long.

These are stupid comments.if you transgressed the law arrest is within the law and the law provides for an accused to be treated as innocent till proven guilty.He will be produced in court and depending on the nature of the case the judge will decide on the next step to be taken within the law. This drunkard who was protected by the political masters did not allow the law to take its course. Now the law is working and he will be released if he is not guilty of any offence and punished accordingly if he is guilty.

These commentators have no understanding of the basic law in the country. In Sri Lanka, like most countries in the world, bail is the norm not the exception. There is a prima facie entitlement to bail for most charges and the accused is presumed to be innocent until proven guilty. If you want no bail, try North Korea or Russia.
