Ampara, Jan 13 (Daily Mirror) - The main suspect in the abduction of a girl from Gampola has been arrested alongside the victim in the Ampara area, police said.
Police Spokesman SSP Buddhika Manathunga said that three police teams have been investigating the case after the girl was abducted by a group of individuals who arrived in a van in Daulagala.
Following the interrogation of the van's driver and analysis of the main suspect’s mobile phone records, the suspect was arrested.
The girl has been referred to a doctor for a medical examination, and further investigations are ongoing against the suspect.
The abduction was initially captured on a CCTV footage, showing the girl being forcibly placed into a vehicle while her friend fled. Another individual is also seen attempting to rescue the girl, according to the footage.
The incident occurred on Sunday morning, when the girl, a resident of Handessa in the Daulagala police division, was abducted while on her way to school with a friend.
Investigations revealed that the main suspect is the son of the girl's father's sister. Investigations revealed that the abduction took place due to a family dispute, as the girl's father had initially approved of a marriage proposal but later had disapproved it.
