Milk powder prices to reduce from tonight

Local milk powder manufacturing companies have taken steps to reduce the prices of local milk powder with effect from tonight.

The companies have reduced the price of a 400g sachet of full cream milk powder by Rs. 75 and a one kilogram packet by Rs. 190.

Accordingly, the 400g milk packet will be sold in the market at a price of Rs.1,050 and a one kilogram packet at Rs. 2,585.

Local milk powder is the same price as imported milk powder. Wonder how that happens. Local milk powder (Highland and Pelawatte) were cheaper but they were too greedy and increased the price. There are imported milk powder going for cheaper in the market. Even with the reduction local milk powder is still more expensive than the imported stuff.

When prices of imports reduce, then demand increases which results in higher US$ outflow? Has AKD revealed his plan to prevent negative trade balance which if out of control will cause SLR to depreciate vs USD and cause price of all imports to increase again,amplified by customs duty, etc. Already freight costs are rising globally due to virtual Suez canal shutdown and upcomming seasonal consumer goods demand in US and EU. A 400gm packet costing Rs.1050!? It was Rs.390 when Ranil took over as President. Every participant at TV political debate shows keeps harping about Ranil bringing the prices down from what it was - it's complete codswallop! Normal petrol was Rs.137. How much is it now - about 3 times more. So are all other consumables, canned fish, lentils, rice, dry fish etc. No queues? It's no miracle when you put up the price!

The Laptop Critics are so foolish not to understand that the price revisions are are made by the Companies that import Milk powder, of course with the consumer affairs ministry's endorsement. Still expensive, for sure i agree the election push until they win. i hope to ask the candidates if they are aware of monthly essential grocery and utility bills? a concerned country for people need to get this down to affordable levels. needs to be 500/- for 400g Ratti who should buy any powdered milk for the 1050/- if Ambawela milk sold at 550/- that can do almost the same or better as powdered milk. Maliban,pelawatte,pure dale taste very cheap.
