Ministry warns of flood risks in low-lying areas of Parakrama Samudra



Colombo, November 27 (Daily Mirror) - The Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Land and Irrigation, D.P. Wickremasinghe, has urged residents in the low-lying areas of the Parakrama Samudra to remain vigilant against sudden flooding.

In a public notice, the Secretary instructed technical officers attached to the Irrigation Department and the Mahaweli Authority to remain at their respective stations.

Special attention was directed toward ensuring immediate safety precautions for those affected in the Akkarapattuwa and Nilwala Ganga areas.

Additionally, the Secretary ordered the cancellation of all leave for employees who are currently on vacation to ensure adequate personnel are available to manage the situation.

The Mahaweli Authority officials were also instructed to coordinate with the respective District Secretaries to provide necessary assistance to the affected residents in these areas.
