NPP has introduced ‘retirement’ into Sri Lankan politics: President

Colombo, October 13 (Daily Mirror)- The National People's Power (NPP) government has been able to introduce the word 'retirement' into Sri Lankan politics where none of the politicians had retired in the past, other than those who had lost in elections or had died, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said today.

While addressing the NPP candidates who are contesting the general elections, he said these kinds of situations are called transformations.

"Most of the former MPs have withdrawn from the election campaign this time. This is the transformation that the people expected," he said.

The President said the NPP government has been able to prove wrong the false allegations hurled by the opposition camp during the Presidential election campaign even before 21 days have lapsed.

He said the opposition camp is now left without any slogans for the general elections.

"The opposition camp made false criticisms against us. They said there will be clashes after an NPP victory and that there will be gas and fuel queues. That the rupee will depreciate against the US dollar, that Sri Lanka will be an isolated country in the world etc. But all these criticisms have been shattered before their eyes within 21 days," he said.
