One million coconuts to be distributed through Sathosa outlets: Minister

Parliament, December 04 (Daily Mirror)- Steps are being taken to distribute one million coconuts through Sathosa outlets at a price of Rs. 130 each within the next two weeks, Minister of Trade, Commerce, Food Security and Cooperative Development Wasantha Samarasinghe said today.

He told Parliament that state owned plantations such as Chilaw Plantations Limited and Kurunegala Plantations Limited (KPL) were instructed to provide their coconut produce to Sathosa outlets at latest tender price of Rs. 110 a nut without calling for fresh tenders.

The Minister said coconuts will be distributed in urban areas as the shortage is acute in urban than rural areas.

Much needed at this juncture, usually Sri lanka has enough coconuts supply entire population plus export high quality coconut milk and powder to forigen countries.Agriculture department need to take measures to prevent this desease not to destroy in the future.

Too late. Government without any future plan. They should have known this way before as yield is less until jan. In past all governments mange to give various benefits as promised at elelection but this is the first government that failed to deliver anything they promised that will be executed within a short period. No solution for rice shortage, no solution for coconut price hike, failed to reduce water and elec bills, failed to terminate free fuel and pension for mps, failed to sell all luxury vehicles in government vehicle fleet and has so many.
