Heavy rains above 100 mm are likely today in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Northern Provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts, the Meteorology Department said.

They said thundershowers would occur in the Northern and Eastern Provinces and elsewhere of the island during the evening or night. 

Misty conditions can be expected at some places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, Uva and Southern Provinces during the morning.

Therefore, the public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damages caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
