PUCSL urges CEB to submit tariff proposal by December 6 or face action

Colombo, November 25 (Daily Mirror) - The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has requested the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) to submit its tariff proposal by December 6. Failure to do so will compel the Commission to implement the tariff revision clause of the Bulk Supply Transaction Operational Guidelines.

In a notice, the PUCSL stated that it has granted the CEB a two-week extension for the submission, setting the new deadline as December 6. Considering the time required for the tariff approval process under the Sri Lanka Electricity Act of 2009, the approved Tariff Methodology, and the Tariff Review Procedure Rules, the earliest possible date for tariff approval will be January 17, 2025.

The PUCSL further noted that, based on the CEB’s request for an extension via the aforementioned letter, the additional two weeks have been granted.

However, the Commission warned that failure to submit the tariff proposal by December 6 would compel it to implement the tariff revision clause of the Bulk Supply Transaction Operational Guidelines. This would involve passing the positive balance of the Bulk Supply Transaction Account back to the consumers.
