President-elect Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that a Parliamentary election will be required soon, though he did not specify a timeline.

Dissanayake said this after being named President following the counting of preferential votes in the 2024 Presidential election this evening.

If a second round of voting is necessary, you should do it properly or skip it altogether. Under the Sri Lankan electoral system, a second round of voting is completely pointless and only confuses voters. It was done properly in France and previously in Turkey. There, the second round of voting is held after a short period of time, for example, two weeks later, as in France. All votes from the first round are no longer valid. This gives the two remaining candidates time to campaign. In France, Marie Le Pen, a right-wing nationalist fascist, received the most votes in the first round. The eliminated candidates had now given their voters a recommendation for the second round. Thus, the incumbent President Macron was re-elected in the second round, but only because he was the lesser evil. This is what a second round of voting should look like and not like the nonsense in Sri Lanka.
