Presidential election is not about choosing teams: RW
Colombo, September 6 (Daily Mirror)- In response to an allegation that he does not have a sound team to back him, independent candidate Ranil Wickremesinghe said a Presidential election is all about electing a person to lead the nation.
"You don't elect teams in a presidential election. One can choose a good team at the general election. Send in a good team to Parliament at the general election, Mr. Wickremesinghe told a rally at Mathugama yesterday.
"A President only has to appoint the person who commands a majority in Parliament as the Prime Minister. Then he has to select the cabinet together with the Prime Minister," he said.
"I will bring those who are engaged in corruption before the law under a future government if I am elected as the President," he added.
Also he questioned as to why the SJB has come up with two manifestos."One SJB manifesto is called Win for everyone and the other Blueprint 2. Win for everyone comprises plans to develop the tourism sector but Blueprint 2 does not say anything about tourism. Why is this?" he questioned.

Currently he as president is compelled to work with the team elected by the citizens of this country. The team he handpicked and got to parliament via the National List such as Dr Harsha and Mr Eran are with the SJB. One reason why some very young English speaking ministers from the Pohottuwa (such as Dilum, Kanchana Harin etc likes the man is because he is knowledgeable and also he is taking decisions. During aragalaya he was a Hitler but now judges are taking decisions and people are openly criticising him without any repercussions. He is a person who should be in leadership till 2028 where the real debt repayments will start happening.

What? He got Dr Harsha and Mr Eran through National List. They came through SJB List while Ranil came through the back door as a National List MP for UNP though the spirit of the Law was no defeated candidate from National List. Lowest level of scheming.

More taxes are to be enforced and intend to sell profit making institutes at bargain prices for commissions in return. It means, dictatorship at the helm as in the UNP after disregarding the constitution and court orders and heading for his Phase II.

Front runners or any other who may be mandated won't deviate from on going plan but universal franchise for presidency indicate also the team they desire over the choice of few manipulators and their appointee, even though he has done something to normalize, leaving the heavy burden on peoples shoulder.

It seems that RW brought individuals like Kanchana, Ramesh Pathirana, Shehan Semasinghe, who had always remained in the shadows of the Rajapaksa family, into the limelight. He showed that he’s capable of delivering despite limited resources and under the most difficult circumstances. If he ends up winning the election, I don't think even people like Harsha and Eran will remain with Sajith, who is a weak leader. This election is indeed an election to pick the best leader and the parliamentary election will determine the team the next president is going to work with.
