Rainy conditions to decrease from today

Colombo, November 29 (Daily Mirror) - The deep depression over the southwest Bay of Bengal, located about 240 kms northeast of Trincomalee and 290 kms east of Kankesanthurai, is expected to gradually reduce its influence on the island's weather after today (29), the Meteorology Department said.

The deep depression is likely to move north-westwards towards the Tamil Nadu coast, they said.

However, showers are expected at times in the Northern and North-Central Provinces and in the Trincomalee district, with heavy showers exceeding 100 mm likely in the Northern Province.

Showers are also expected at times in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western Provinces, as well as in the Galle, Matara, Matale and Kandy districts. Showers or thundershowers will occur in several other areas of the island during the evening or night.

Strong winds of about 60 km/h can be expected at times over the Northern, North-Central, North-Western, Eastern, Central and Southern Provinces.

The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimise damage caused by temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
