Ranil calls for fresh mandate to create a bright future
Colombo, August 15 (Daily Mirror)- Incumbent President Ranil Wickremesinghe who handed over the nomination today to contest the Presidential election, called for a fresh mandate to create a bright future for the nation.
“I seek the people’s mandate to create a bright future for the people of Sri Lanka. We took over the nation and brought stability. You have food, fuel and other essential items now. This is only the beginning. There is much to be done to convert Sri Lanka into a stabilised nation. Therefore I request the people to give me a mandate to fulfill our task,” he said.
“Opposition members ran away when they were asked to take over the nation during the crisis period. Decide whether you are going to hand over the nation to such persons,” he told the people.

Sir in fairness to Mr RW, the Rajapakses were not voted to rule us by Mr RWs one vote which he would have used to vote for himself. It is us citizens who voted the Rajapakses at democratically held elections and now they are in parliament. If we have files about the corruption of the Rajapakses then we should lodge complaints in the police and get them prosecuted. It is not the job of a president to do so. Specially a president who took over a country in crisis with geo political impacts and many challenges.

The President is not there to take action but where is the law implemented? when he was the PM he did not allow investigations against the rouges, files are available but all cases are washed out. If authorities is not taking action then he must tell them otherwise the country will be robbed and the President will just be there. what was his election promise in 2015 was it it done he had the Golden opportunity to show is honesty but he was protecting rouges VISA issue , Min asking for a bribe ambassador complaint , manhandling a porter what action was done nothing do not try to protect the corrupt, ultimately we are paying for their sins

The opposition did not runaway. The joint opposision including RW agreed to a national government, but GR must step down and the Presidency should be scrapped The intereme government was to run for 2 years until country was stabilised. When GR had no option but to resign, RW jumped in with MR backing and took over the Prime minister ship and got the presidency with MRs help and had to protect the Rajapakshas. That what happened. Listen to the speech by Sumandiram in parliment when RW slipped through like a eel.

The joint opposition including RW suggested to establish a government with the guidance of the Bar Association with the intention to have a General Election after 6 months with the condition that GR must have been stepped down and the Presidency was to be given to the Speaker. When GR had no option but to resign, RW jumped in with MR backing and took over the presidency with MRs help and had to protect the Rajapakshas. That was what happened. According to the constitution president cannot resign or renounce power. Hence this constitution has been violated after the Aragalaya and no need to continue as it is. Forthcoming election has a value if it can be used also as a referendum to scrap Presidency and the mandate for a new upright constitution.

A bright future can be forecasted only if you have a team of honest legislators without a blemish the public have right throughout wanted politicians who can deliver the goods but honest persons who will not rob the public purse because the bright future will only be confined to the politicians who will be able to swindle the purse and promote nefarious activities which is not in the agenda of the public!!!!!

It would be useful to all if the people who comment at least make an effort to understand how the constitution works. If RW didn't come forward there would have been anarchy, which is what some who comment here probably wanted so hat their favorite group could step in and take over. Fully agree with the statement of Prince. That is the true story. Ranil who was with the Opposition's claim for an interim govt without a President, went through the backdoor to accept the Premiership and he was responsible to chase away Gota, and ubsequently elected to the vacant Prez post with the support of Mahinda and his 134 party supporters. So it appeared as a deal BTW Mahinda n Ranil. If not Ranil wouldn't hv ever become Prez. These politicians hv the habit of taking ppl for rides. This election is a rest for all citizen to show them we cannot be cheated again.
