SJB raises concern on UNP seniors meeting Election Commission members

Colombo, July 18 (Daily Mirror)- The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) has raised concerns about a recent meeting between senior UNP members and Election Commission officials.

SJB MP Mayantha Dissanayake emphasized the need for transparency regarding the discussions held by the UNP General Secretary and its Chairman with the Election Commission members, especially since the UNP leaders have publicly called for early Presidential elections.

Dissanayake stated that while the Election Commission will eventually announce the election date, the true nature of the meeting remains to be clarified in the days ahead.

Furthermore, Dissanayake noted that the upcoming 2024 Presidential election could mark a significant first, potentially seeing two members of the same Cabinet competing for the Presidency. He mentioned speculation about the incumbent President's candidacy, yet to be officially confirmed, alongside expectations that Minister Wijedasa Rajapakshe will also contest under an SLFP-led alliance. Thus, the 2024 Presidential election might witness a unique scenario with two Cabinet members vying for the highest office, he said.

SJB and NPP should take seriously the UNP members meeting with EC to expedite election process. Something fishy going on. Get things clarified ASAP as the present Election Commissioner playing 'Pandu'. Besides, MR's claim of a candidate candidate for Prez election, is none other than Ranil.

President is trying his level best even now to postpone the election as he knows that he will lose very badly. He has another option joining with Potuwa robbers headed by Basil and Mina. but he has to work as a slave under them. But for sure, this time if the Elections are postponed, the entire country will come to Colombo and chase Ranil like how they did it for Gota
