The Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) will support new President Anura Kumara Dissanayake whenever needed, SJB Presidential candidate and Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa said.
"It is the duty of all Presidential candidates to extend their support to push the country out of the present crisis," Premadasa told a gathering at the election office.
"I congratulate Anura Kumara Dissanayake who emerged victorious at the Presidential election 2024. I hope he has strength to stabilise the nation and take it out of the crisis," he added.

Pity he could not do likewise with his former leader when the country and its people were going through the hardest of times. Wonder whether he has come down to earth with a crash landing?

He couldn't do it earlier, with an unelected crafty fox.

Former leader was a power hungry dictator. Glad he is gone and hope he’s gone forever. Him and AKD worked together and the country knows that. Let’s see how long this guy lasts

Ranil gone forever? no way. He must be thinking that with the 17% votes received, UNP can get 15-20 seats in the next parliamentary elections, and that he is going to head that group. His power hungriness has no limitations.

SP Didn’t Want To Be Associated With Mostly Corrupt Regimes Of The Past Monday, 23 September 2024 04:32 AM
His former leader was with that gang of morons! SP was smart not to be associated with him as RW was all about his status and luxurious perks. Now there is a down to earth leader AKD who SL needs to get it going and SP knows he will end corruption which is also SP’s objective.

Ranil never wanted their support; he simply aimed to break up the SJB. He had a golden opportunity to unite everyone. What he should have done was form a unity cabinet of around 10-15 members and, after six months, call for a general election. People would have voted for him. Instead, he stuck with the same cabinet and the usual crooks. He should have also taken symbolic actions, such as reducing the number of ministers and cutting their perks. People wanted to see their leaders facing hardships just like them. Additionally, he should have been firm and dismissed any ministers or officials involved in even the slightest fraudulent dealings, such as the health minister. Moreover, he shouldn't have appointed defeated UNP members and his friends to unnecessary government positions, like presidential advisors and governors. This is where AKD and the JVP capitalized very effectively.

His president was always running him down with the only ambition of not letting him move forward. The help RW requested was just cosmetic.

RW and SP had their differences. Well, SP should have, when needed supported RW at the Hour of Need of the Country and its People. Political ego and survival would have taken priority then.

The previous leader was not elected by people, but this leader was. That is the difference. Can't you see?

This was a very sensitive period. Had Sajith accepted the offer to lead the nation, he would have had to work with a set of dirtiest of crooks and scoundrels ever to grace our parliament. Besides, his hands would have been tied. That is exactly why he did not want to lead the nation. This time he lost because a considerable amount of votes that would have come his way went to pina, or else he would have easily passed the 50% mark. However, it must me mentioned that some notorious crooks, masquerading as saints, are with Sajith as well.

Divisive leader RW must have landed with a lovely crash. Stabilise economy? Really? Is borrowing more from IMF and moving repayment dates further down the line stability? Is without growing the economy, just shifting more burden on the poor not the ones with broader shoulders stability? Is using borrowed money to spend on foreign trips, expanding ex presidents house, funding rebuilding of prploperties of thugs in parliament stability? Atleast Sajith's statement is gentlemanly. How can he support such false stability and RW's claims? Please open the eyes now guys. Some of us don't want to be hoodwinked by these cheats anymore.

Sajith sir AKD has Sunil Handunneththi as finance minister that means reincaranation of Felix R dias Bandaranayake. So country would suffer at start Like Somalia but end would be Like Japan or China. Patient is very important. AKD and his team are highly educated with university backround. So every body should help. You cannot turn the country in 24hrs need minimum 3years to rectify.

Good decision Sajith. Your support is needed by the country and Anura in controversial situations when he try to keep his promises. Removing MP pension will be one issue that benefits the country and it will be tough for the past politicians to support. Sacrifices are needed to resurrect the country and I hope Sajith will support Anura on issues unsavory to politicians. Pension to politicians is ok with me if the politician has held office of MP for a total period of 20 years. There are many more issues like this

This is the patriotism we need. Otherwise, whilst we squabble over who's the right man to be president, the corrupt blood sucking poli-tick-ians will sneak away right under our noses. We have to build our country up and thus our improvement alone will prove that the previous regimes were all scum

At least the XXX son has some true leadership quality to extend the support "When needed". Ranil and UNP just moved away with 2.2 Million votes, with out extending the support, and no comments about PP who fell down to "Dekayi Panaha"

You failed to meet him in debate and you failed to win the confidence of majority. Because, you failed to takeover from former President, when he failed to lead the nation. As an Opposition Leader, it was your duty and you were legally bound to takeover from Gota. Also, you failed to maintain unity in the United National Party. So you are a FAILURE.

Despite everything, Sajith is a true gentleman. He is honorable, level-headed, and possesses strong leadership qualities. He knows that, in time, he will have the opportunity to lead Sri Lanka. He stands out as a rare individual—quite different from other politicians' sons, many of whom have been consumed by arrogance and blatant foolishness, using their fathers' power as a tool.

You clown did not want to corporate and cordinate with your mentor and leader. You were asked many times to join hands by your own Hiran, Harsha, Sarath , Kabir and so on. You high headed actions have costed the country and your party a lot that we cann say in words. Had you corporated we will still have the leader who resurected this country and you would have gained more than 150 seats in General Election to Govern this country in the right path. Now you dont have this nor that. Please resign. Give the Party to Harsha or Kabir.

When there is big age gap some of the oldies think that others are too big for their boots. Since Anura and Sajith are of the present generation they could be supportive of each other because they have the common chemistry. Fear has been a part shown by the public of an older generation because they do not know what the composition of this JVP/NCC lot who have stained their reputation in the past. The main thing what the public require is honest politicians who will work towards the upliftment of the public. Also nothing has surfaced of Anura's integrity (no blemish) which is a sine quo non in leading this country. Also speaking to the audience at the Election commissioners office we only seen a simple down to earth man. The only thing is to ensure the popularity should not burn out as with Gota by adopting policies detrimental to the public. Wishing him bonvoyage terra firma in resurrecting the economy!!!!!!!

It is better to joint with the NPP for you. You will be remembered in the history of Sri Lanka as a leader who did not support for your own leader, to run the country for another five years, who served the country that declared as bankruptcy and proved his ability within two years as a capable president while all the camps extended their support for him for the betterment of our nation.
