Colombo, June 27 (Daily Mirror) - The Education Ministry announced that all schools will function as usual today despite the teachers' sick leave campaign.

Meanwhile, the Ceylon Teachers' Union (CTU) General Secretary Joseph Stalin said that their sick leave campaign will continue for the second day today against the use of tear gas and water cannons to disperse the protestors yesterday.

A trade union action took place yesterday in front of the Fort Railway Station, demanding the settlement of the remaining two-thirds of salary anomalies for teachers and principals.

Pls don't issue statements for galary when half the kids are at home. The teachers who are protesting are again products of free education which is the root cause of this nonsense. Keep giving everything free and u get this. How much of time wastage, resources waste, and money wasted for the ppl who are traveling to work.

Don’t talk like a fool … getting free education and working for foreign governments and paying taxes for foreign governments are not bad but we are working for our people and public and government not giving our rights and areas are bad for your views

If they were sick how were they fit enough to block roads and scream slogans on the public highway? They are holding the whole country to ransom not only to satisfy their demands but also to prop up anti government parties

Certain factions are lighting the crackers in order to mark the liberalisation of the bankruptcy. On the other hand the teachers are going on sick leave campaign Furthermore during the absence of teachers the students are coming to the schools. Whatsoever nobody knows what is really happening. Is this the good news what we are expecting

In the absence of teachers how could the government say that schools will be functioning. Don't deceive the parents because this is a lost day for the students who will be idling while some will be playing at the grounds and some minding their own business!!!!!!!

Almost all kids are in cinema halls or just roaming the streets in gangs!! If these so-called teachers are sick how can they take part in protests shouting at the top of their voices??!! Please CUT their salaries . Enough is enough!!
