Suspect remanded for defrauding millions of rupees using others’ mobile SIM cards

Colombo, June 20 (Daily Mirror) - A suspect who had allegedly defrauded over millions of rupees by using other people’s mobile SIM cards was remanded till July 4 by the Colombo Chief Magistrate.

The suspect, Mohan Dayalan of Hatton was remanded by Colombo Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage after he was produced before court by the Cyber Crime Monitoring Unit of the CID.

The detectives told the court that the suspect had illegally logged into the bank accounts of various SIM card holders using the victim’s mobile phone numbers. They added that further investigations are underway to determine the actual amount defrauded by the suspect. 

Chief Magistrate Thilina Gamage remanded the suspect and ordered the CID to file the progress of their investigations before the court on July 4.

Counsel Namal Rajapaksa with A.A.L. Jayaratna Raja appeared for the suspect.
