Teaching profession issues reviewed, salary increments possible

Colombo, July 22 (Daily Mirror) - Education Minister Susil Premajayantha said that issues in the teaching profession are being reviewed and resolved, making it possible to grant salary increments without delay.

Addressing the media at the Presidential Media Centre yesterday (22) he said that the increments will be granted after sending the relevant letters to the provincial authorities and receiving the order letters by next Wednesday, as agreed by the Secretary of the Public Service Commission.

Moreover, he said despite the economic difficulties, the government managed to provide solutions to the teacher shortage by providing 16,000 teacher appointments at national and provincial levels.

Teachers should work during the vacation in some other productive places. Vacation is only for school children or reduce their pay during vacation.

Why is SL Public service always about salary anomalies, increments and promotions? Who is going to.pay for these? Add the rampant corruption and mis-management to it. You are faced with a perfect disaster. What are these useless public servants really doing? And for teachers, do we really need them nowthat all students go to tuition classes from Grade 1 paying good money?

Schools are needed as it plays an important role in developing a child , it is not just subject matter that the children should learn, they should learn life skills and Schools are the best places for developing such skills. Tuition is party due to parents mentality that their child should score high marks at written exams so they could become a Doctor or an Engineer . The teachers have no teaching skills or willingness to teach that is where the system has failed. They rally behind foreign contractor Stalin to get more and more benefits. Their non working time is 99% of the available time.
