Former President and UNP leader Ranil Wickremeisinghe has appointed Thalatha Athukorala as the new party General Secretary, party sources said.

An official announcement is expected to be made shortly.

There's nothing left in the party. If late Gamini Athukorale was alive, he would have forced Ranil out and saved the party. Both UNP and the SJB will not survive until the next general or prez elections. Hope a young and charismatic leader would emerge and form a new center right party to challenge the JVP.
