Train derails between Galaboda and Inguru Oya stations

Colombo, June 30 (Daily Mirror) - Upcountry train services have been disrupted due to the derailment of the Badulla night mail train this morning, the Railways Department said.

They said the train was derailed between Galaboda and Inguru Oya railway stations.

Due to the derailment, two short-distance train services were cancelled this morning.

The night mail train left for Colombo Fort from Badulla at 6.30 a.m.

No end in sight to train derailments. This has become almost a daily occurrence, causing much inconvenience to the commuters. The authorities need to find a lasting solution to the problem at hand. Spending taxpayer’s money, every now and then for Ad-hoc repairs is an utter waste causing immense strain on government coffers.

The Rail tracks built in ancient times have been in dilapidated condition in most of the routes that will never suit to run newly built trains on the tracks, therefore, the reason why the most sophisticated trains have not been introduced in Sri Lanka, and that that is why, the politicians apply lethargic stance in importing new power sets to Sri Lanka for service.

These railway tracks were built during the British time. Some people call them "para sudaha".What development and repairs are done to maintain these tracks? I remember when I was going to College and even while going to work traveling by train, there were so many Railway employees or minor staff working on the tracks. They used to clean and uproot weeds and check the joints, nuts, and bolts. Are they still doing it? I doubt. On the other hand, the government has done nothing to improve the tracks to the current situation for the new trains to run. When will these be done to our motherland? Pathetic. But I have read and heard expensive vehicles are being imported. To whom. You know that answer.
