Colombo, December 03 (Daily Mirror)- Claiming that several police officials had sustained cut injuries during yesterday's protest outside the Education Ministry, Deputy Minister Mahinda Jayasinghe said today, he as trade union leader, had resorted to trade union actions with thousands of people but such unfortunate incidents had never occurred.

The Deputy Minister said he suspects that some organised groups were engaged in such acts to embarrass the government.

"Three police officers had sustained cut injuries. One police officer had received some 18 stiches for his cut injuries. We, as trade union leaders, have resorted to protests with thousands of people. But, such unfortunate incidents had never occurred in our history. Even the university students who are supposed to be aggressive had never resorted to such acts. It is an unfortunate situation," he said.

Jayasinghe said the issues faced by the development officers must be resolved and that the government must be given sufficient time to resolve the issues.

"We regret that they did not provide the government sufficient time for that," he said.
