Airline Pilot’s Guild again back to ’Fly the Roster’

Airline Pilot’s Guild of Sri Lanka (ALPGSL) yesterday said that they will re-launch the “Fly the Roster” campaign as the SriLankan Airlines Chairman and the management failed to address their issues, and none of them were resolved satisfactorily by the January 31, 2022.

While issuing a notice, the ALPGSL said one of the main issues which has not still been rectified is an anomaly in the remuneration of newly-appointed Captains.

These appointments were made on merit, and First Officers promoted to the rank of Captains who take the full responsibility for the aircraft and its passengers and are accountable for the safety of the flight while under their command.

However, the company is refusing to pay the newly appointed Captains their salaries and paying them the salary of a First Officer category while asking them to perform the duties of a Captain.

Another the main issues is regarding remuneration, where contractually the company pays salaries in local rupee equivalent to US Dollars to pilots, the ALPGSL said.

However, since March 2020, the airline management has illegally and arbitrarily fixed a maximum exchange rate of US$ 188.78 for the payment of salaries only, which is unlawful and also not the actual Central Bank published rate nor is it the rate published by the SriLankan Airline's Finance Department.

The ALPGSL relaunched its “Fly the Roster” campaign on the February 4, 2022.

The initial campaign was launched on the December 21, 2021 and promptly suspended within a couple of days because the SriLankan Airlines Chairman communicated to the ALPGSL through the management and assured that all their grievances will be addressed by January 3, 2022.
