A filling station managed by the Lanka Indian Oil Corporation (LIOC) in Wallawaya was sealed due to many irregularities and a short fuel supply, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) said.

Chairman Janaka Ratnayake said the raid was conducted as a joint operation of the PUCSL, ITI (Industrial Technology Institute), and Measurement Units, Standards & Services Department.

On September 29, two out of three Octane 92 fuel dispensers at a fuel filling station in Colombo were sealed due to a short delivery of fuel. He said the filling stations had saved 1.2% of petrol from a litre worth Rs.5.40 during every instance where fuel was dispensed. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

Appalling that Lanka IOC is selling short on fuel. They have great profits. If the profit for selling each litre of fuel is 3 or 4% of the value sold then the extra 1.2% on top is just massive. Could be 25% of their profits is by this illegal practice. They should be fined for all fuel sold at the pumps since the last check. I hope all privately owned CPC branded stations and Lanka IOC stations must get constant scrutiny as maybe that's how they are making so much profit compared to CPC barely breaking even on selling fuel.

How many years has this been going and not been caught? Lanka IOC would have known about the fact, as they supply fuel to their own stations. If they supply say 10,000 litre for each re-fill and find 120 is left, after some refills the left over would accumulate and it would be obvious. Seems when company owned stations are under filling there's it's knowing malpractice by the company.
