Damitha Abeyratne remanded till Sept. 14

Actress Damitha Abeyratne was today ordered to be remanded till September 14 after being produced before Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage.

She was arrested by Colombo North Divisional Crime Detective Bureau (DCDB) for allegedly forcibly entering Presidential Secretariat and obstructing the duties of police officers during Galle Face protests.

Damitha Abeyratne was represented by a group of lawyers including President's Counsel Rienzie Arsekularatne, Counsel Thejitha Koralage, Udara Muhandiramge, Thilina Punchihewa and Eranda Yakandawala. (Lakmal Sooriyagoda)

This and other unlawful arrests shall be brought to the UNHRC session starting next week. There are a lot of cases including an Army officers assaulting civilians, the Police actions against peaceful demonstrators, PTA arrests etc. I hope some one will bring to UNHRC attention.
