Gazette issued removing maximum retail price of essential commodities



The government has removed the retail price cap on several essential commodities through a recent gazette notification.

As such, the retail prices of dhal, sugar, sprats, green gram, potatoes, big onions, canned fish, chickpeas, wheat flour, full cream milkpowder, dried fish, coconut, chicken and maize have been removed through  the new gazette.

In an earlier notification issued in 2017, the price of Mysore dhal was Rs. 159 per kg. Rs. 490 per kg of imported dried sprats (Imported-Thailand), Rs. 405 per kg of dried sprats (Imported-Dubai). Rs.205 for a kg of green gram and Rs.115 for a kg of potatoes (imported). Rs.122 for a kg of white sugar. The maximum retail price for a kg of brown sugar was Rs. 125 as was announced by the gazette.

In addition to Rs.260 per kg of chickpeas, Rs.385 per kg of dried chillies, Rs.1,100 for a kg of dried fish, Rs.425 per kg of salaya dried salaya. 

The new gazette notification has also removed the maximum price limit of Rs. 1,500 for a 400g packet of sausage and Rs. 1,500 for a kg of mackerel. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)
