Leader of Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA) an ally of Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) Mano Ganesan today welcomed the decision by the government to introduce a direct cash subsidy to low income groups to purchase kerosene in the wake of the price increase.
“I welcome your decision to provide a direct cash subsidy to low income groups to face the kerosene price increase. Please make sure that the poorest of the poor plantation workers and Colombo low income urban poor are included in the list of beneficiaries,” MP Ganesan said in a twitter message to Minister of Power and Energy Kanchana Wijesekera today.
The government on Sunday night increased the price of kerosene from Rs 87 a litre to Rs 340.
Minister Wijesekera in a twitter message said the government will introduce a direct cash subsidy to low income families in the fisheries and plantation sectors that depend on kerosene. (Yohan Perera)
