Minister wants politicians, people to emulate ’’Nedungamuwe Raja’’

The exemplary gesture displayed by the elephant ‘Nedungamuwe Raja’ when it carried the casket of the Holy Tooth Relics at the Randoli Perahera on the Esala Poya night (22) is a model to follow by all those including politicians who have been affected by the Covid 19 pandemic, Co-cabinet Spokesman, Mass Media Minister Dullas Alahapperuma said.

“Without collective and self- motivated discipline and determination among all Sri Lankans, the fight against the deadly pandemic would be a difficult task,” he added.

Responding to a journalist at the post cabinet news briefing last morning, who questioned the minister about the irresponsible behaviour of certain traders who had exploited the frantic situation following countrywide lock down to make a fast buck, Minister Alahapperuma said if Sri Lankans maintained a discipline like tusker ‘Nedungamuwe Raja’, tackling of the Covid- 19 pandemic would not be a big deal.

“The entire country witnessed how Raja re-set the rumpled ‘pavadaya’ with his trunk before he stepped forward while he was carrying the golden casket on his back with the Sacred Tooth Relics in the ‘Randoli Perahera on the Full Moon Poya Day. Raja showed the entire world that discipline is an integral part of any mission to accomplish success. It is a good lesson to all of us,” Minister Alahapperuma stressed.(Sandun A Jayasekara)
