More ministers to cabinet soon - Govt. aims to go back to jumbo cabinet



A few more Cabinet ministers are expected to be sworn in shortly, a Minister said.

Housing and Urban Development Minister Prasanna Ranatunga said it would happen either this week or next week.

The Minister who is also the Chief Government Whip said MP Namal Rajapaksa might also get a portfolio.

Earlier, 37 MPS, mostly from Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) and Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP), were appointed state ministers.

The President can appoint 30 Cabinet ministers in keeping with the Constitution.

State Minister of Defence Pramitha Bandara Tennakoon, Secretary, Ministry of Defence General Kamal Gunaratne, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Nishantha Ulugetenne, Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, Inspector General of Police C. D. Wickramaratne, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Defence R. M. P. S. Rathnayake,  Commandant of the National Defence College Major General Amal Karunasekara,  Director, Department of National Budget Ms. W. M. S. K. Weerasekara and Secretary, National Defence College Brigadier Asanga Perera also graced the occasion.(Kelum Bandara)
