No short term solution for brain drain situation, must stop early: Foreign Minister

There is no short-term solution to the brain drain situation in the country, but we must stop it as soon as we can, Foreign Affairs Minister Ali Sabry said.

He said this during the launch of the e-Channeling Appointment System for Authentication Services at the Ministry today.

"People in the country can give many elaborations about the country's economy in many ways. When running a welfare government for a long time, it is very much essential to built on an export-based institution, should use the techenology, should widen the tax net and people should pay their taxes in time. Otherwise, the country's economy will collapse.

When the labour force was migrating from the country, they had to face many issues with their document certification process through the consular service of the ministry. The certificate authentication process took more time as an unexpected number of people migrated during the past years.

So the consular affairs division of the foreign ministry has decided to introduce a new system to ease the traffic.

So the e-channelling appointment system was introduced, enabling the public to obtain online appointments for authentication of documents at the Consular Affairs Division and its Regional Consular Offices in Jaffna, Trincomalee, Kandy, Kurunegala, and Matara.

The e-channelling appointment system was launched in collaboration with SLT Mobitel to facilitate the public to receive effective services at the Authentication Section of the Consular Affairs Division.

The public seeking authentication services may dial 225 (mobile subscribers) or 1225 (landline subscribers) and via Mobitel e-channeling (www.echannelling.com) to obtain an appointment, or people can download the e-channelling mobile application via Google Play or App Store to get an appointment.

Appointments can also be obtained by accessing the official website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at www.mfa.gov.lk. (Chaturanga Samarawickrama)

The easiest way is to issue all important original documents such as birth or marriage certificates in English. Then authorization will no longer be required. If one then need a document in Sinhala or Tamil, one can get it from the local Goernment Agent Offices.

You will never stop it as economic crisis is worsening day by day...if you can feed people what can people do ...let them go abroad and feed their families .. You can't force them what to do and where to do and where to work . It is their lives and their freedom and their way of lives . This is desperate attempt by this government and it shows its failure

Government is continually encouraging our people to go overseas to work (so it can get benefit of remittances). If the Gota SLPP government had not created the socio-economic crisis people would not have realised the hopeless culture we have here - forever susceptible to corruption. No person who is even the least bit savvy will want to send money back to Sri Lanka using official channels. Already the US dollar is rising against most other world countries, because they raise their interest rates. But our rupee is forever pegged... which will only worsen crisis in the long term.

There is bran drain because of the idiotic policies by the politicos, as they don't know and not qualified how to run the country. Brain drain will stop when educated and respected people are elected and there is no favouritism in appointments,, which under the present setup will take many, many, years to achieve that state in SL

Ade , brain drain is positive for the country, they bring in dollars, better for the politicos who depend on votes of brainless people. More brainless voters mean you can stay in power alternatively every 5 years. Indian brains are leading multinational companies and they bring in a lot of investment to India. So try to use this to your advantage.
