Oxygen demand notably decreased in hospitals: Minister

The oxygen demand to treat COVID-19 patients has substantially gone down in hospitals, Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said.

He said it was a satisfactory situation as far as the oxygen consumption in the country is concerned.

“There was a heavy demand for oxygen at one stage following the number of oxygen-dependent patients, where the Oxygen usage was around 140 tonnes per day,” he underlined.

“Pertinent measures were taken to prevent a oxygen shortage and consequently, I asked for help from India, Singapore and China to obtain adequate oxygen stocks. Accordingly, now we have enough stocks of Oxygen,” the Minister pointed out.

However, he said the demand for oxygen has considerably decreased in last six days.

The Minister proceeded to highlight the importance of getting the vaccine and strictly following the health guidelines because no one is safe until everyone is safe. (Sheain Fernandopulle)
