Former President Mithripala Sirisena today alleged that the Health Ministry had failed to take steps to fully operate the National Renal Treatment Hospital in Polonnaruwa despite orders given by the President to make it fully function within three months.
He told Parliament that the President during an inspection visit in the Hospital, instructed the higher officials of the Health Ministry to take steps to fully function the Hospital within three months.
He said however, the Health Ministry has failed even to appoint a Director to the Hospital as yet.
“No laboratory has been opened as yet. The CT scanner unit worth Rs. 150 million is idling and kept in a room under lock and key without being used. The six operating theatres which have been designed for kidney transplants were not put to use so far,” he charged.(Ajith Siriwardana and Yohan Perera)
