SL receives Dornier 228 Aircraft donated by India

Sri Lanka today received the Dornier 228 Aircraft which was handed over to Sri Lanka by the Indian government, the Indian High Commission in Sri Lanka said.

The Indian High Commission tweeted that President Ranil Wickremesinghe participated in the ceremonial welcome for India's latest gift to the people of Sri Lanka.

"Ceremonial welcome for India's latest gift to the people of Sri Lanka in the august presence of President Ranil Wickremesinghe and other dignitaries. Dornier 228 Aircraft which was handed over to Sri Lanka airforce will add to its security," it tweeted.

I feel ashamed that our President went to the “ceremonial welcome” for India’s latest gift, an obsolete plane with 40 year old technology. Even as a gift it is an insult to offer garbage to a neighbouring country.

I suppose for the dire economic strife we're in, and the Indian high interest credit we have to bow down low to India. After China spoke seriously, we saw no point to blocking a research vessel coming here. Much to the upset of India and the Biden USA. It would be disappointing if any other situation the President waste the time on all this ceremony. Even to see this ordinary happening, shows how much publicity the government is pushing for the sake of good image with India. Only respect excessive ceremony by government for the plane because we must have India on side for the coming days.

This gift from India is European made. India won't give us aircraft made in their country regardless of how advanced they say they can be, because we know their workmanship is shoddy. And we make public breakdown of gifts. Also, no-coincidence India publicise about their NIA intercepting LTTE operatives. The plane they give is the gift to stop all such. They seek we all hail the wisdom of India. Better getting advanced Chinese propeller planes, because parts are cheaper than from European supplier. So India is again gifting white elephant.

The President is reported to have issued strict orders to all Ministries, Officials and others to curtail expenditure and prevent waste. Wasn't the tamasha at the Airport to receive the Indian donated Aircraft by the President an absolute waste for the beggarly country ?

That is not all. The earlier plan was for SL to purchase. Change of heart was due to arrival of Chinese vessel .RAJAPAKSA’s sold the country to both parties for continuity . These frauds who looted and made to country bankrupt while becoming dollar billionaires SHOULD BE HONNDED PUT.

The Dornier is the workhorse of the Indian Navy and is a very good aircraft. It may originally be western tech but has been extensively modified in India for subcontinent conditions. We in India are very concerned with what is happening to our brothers and sisters in SL. There is also a civil society movement pushing for writing off all debts to SL. When a friendly country offers a good piece of equipment for free let’s not do propaganda.

I am totally surprised and sad after seeing such comments from Sri Lankans. I request to the commenting Sri Lankan brothers that we could share what we have. If for any reason, the Sri Lankans are not happy with the Indian assistance of around Billion US Dollars, they are free to return the same without any interest and not accept any assistance in future.

India is the reason for all the civil war in SL. They benefit from our Sri Lankans lack of intelligence. My father used to send charity money to India 30 years ago. Now we became so low to take a old aircraft.
