In reference to her meeting with JVP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake, U.S. Ambassador Julie Chung said she asked him to contact her whenever he had any concern regarding American policy, investment projects, programmes or any other assistance. She said the two sides could get away with disinformation in that manner.
During a press interaction, she said the JVP is a party with a big presence and growing popularity.
“When I first arrived, I asked my staff to make sure that I meet all the political parties, civil societies, students' groups, and religious groups. It is just important that we don’t meet with one group, alienate any other,” she said.
She said there is a good understanding and the JVP is a relevant political party.
“There are offering ideas to the public,” she said. She added that it was a person-to-person contact, but not a contact between the JVP and the United States. (Kelum Bandara)
