Joyful December

Who would have thought that we would have to celebrate this month of December with the pandemic still being around? Another new mutation of the virus has now sprung up and scientists are yet to figure out whether it is milder or more dangerous than the previous one. We will soon find out.

Nevertheless, the joy of Christmas was not going to be dampened by the pandemic the second time round.  The bigger and smaller hotels had all their Christmas decorations put up and though they did not make a big song and dance about lighting up the tree, it all happened. The shopping malls and many stores have decided to lift everyone’s spirits and gone ahead and decorated them cheerfully. The rising cost of food has made many people think of the less fortunate and are planning on ways to cheer them up, especially with fun hampers for the children who must always feel sad watching others having such a fun time. I am sure there are many people contributing towards Secret Santa Charitable funds and if you have not and are feeling so inclined, please do.

I have seen many pictures on social media of families getting together and chopping up the fruit for the Christmas cake and the other goodies that are made at this time of the year. Christmas trees being put up in a home causes a lot of joy, especially for the children. The young ones who still believe in Santa Claus are busy drafting their letters to him.  Joyful Christmas carols are being played on all the radio channels adding to the holiday atmosphere.

Celebrations have begun in people’s homes with most trying to follow the health regulations to minimise the crowds when getting together since Christmas as well as the dawn of the new year are celebrated by everyone in a big or small way. Along with all this merry making there must be a time set aside giving in any way possible as well.

Let us make merry and wish that we will have a pleasant Christmas and head for a better year to come.
