Miracle Hands

A Creative Visionary Inspiring Through Art and Craft

She is determined to inspire others to embrace their creativity in a society increasingly dominated by technology. “The world is moving so fast, but I still have faith in the creativity of the human brains. I want people to understand the value of using our own miracle hands to create something unbelievably amazing.”

In the dynamic world of arts and crafts, creative artist Keshala Kankanamge has carved her niche as an artist, teacher, and craftsman. The founder of Miracle Hands, a handcrafts business, her work is a celebration of creativity that combines skill, patience, and a unique perspective on traditional craftsmanship.“My journey in the arts has been both a personal passion and a professional pursuit, allowing me to dive into various mediums and techniques,” Keshala shares.

An art teacher based in Qatar for over a decade, she has built her career not just around personal artistry but also through teaching by running her own art academy. “I’m passionate about helping others discover their creative voices, encouraging students to experiment and develop skills that serve them in the art world and beyond. Each day, I’m excited to create, inspire, and share the beauty of craftsmanship with others.”

When asked what sparked her love for crafting, Keshala credits her artistic journey to the encouragement she received as a child. “My parents recognised my abilities early on, especially my mother, who has been instrumental in my success in crafting,” she says. She believes that while talent can be innate, guidance and encouragement play an essential role in shaping an artist.

Her venture into the world of handcrafts began with an accidental discovery—her now-signature layered paper art. Initially inspired by collage art, Keshala sought to be innovative by painting her own paper pieces rather than relying on magazine cut-outs. “Every paper piece I paint has a unique texture that can’t be replicated. That uniqueness is what sparked the idea to make these creations three-dimensional.”

Her business, Miracle Hands specialises in offering a variety of art forms, but its hallmark is her signature layered paper art. This meticulous craft involves using hand-painted paper pieces to create vibrant, textured, and one-of-a-kind 3D pictures. The process is labour-intensive, requiring careful attention to detail and an immense amount of patience. “It takes so long to create just one picture as it takes time to cut all pieces by hand. We can’t expect the same textures and colours in another picture but that’s what makes it special–each creation is entirely unique.”

Beyond layered paper art, Miracle Hands also delves into other creative pursuits, including acrylic and oil paintings, tie-dye, batik, hand-painted fabrics, and natural dyeing techniques. “I don’t like setting boundaries for my creativity,” Keshala explains, emphasising her love for exploring and experimenting with various forms of art.

Now back in Sri Lanka, Keshala seeks to reconnect with her homeland and share her craft knowledge with the people while improving her craft by experimenting with new techniques and styles. “I want to teach art and craft to people in Sri Lanka, especially to kids and those who love to get creative.”

She is determined to inspire others to embrace their creativity in a society increasingly dominated by technology. “The world is moving so fast, but I still have faith in the creativity of the human brains. I want people to understand the value of using our own miracle hands to create something unbelievably amazing.”
Miracle Hands is all about inspiring others to see the world through a creative lens. Whether through her layered paper art or her teaching, Keshala hopes to inspire others of art's power to connect and transform.
