Remembering Ven. S. Mahinda Thera

The 70th death anniversary of distinguished wordsmith Tibet national Ven. S. Mahinda Thera falls tomorrow,  March 16. The Ven. Thera played a major role in promoting Sinhala literature since he arrived in Sri Lanka as an 11- year-old in 1911 and ordained as a Buddhist monk one year later.

The passion he had for the Sinhala language and poetry was so enormous that he wrote a large number of books depicting his amazing linguistic skills. He used his fascinating writing skills not only to motivate children but also to instill patriotism among the people of this country during the freedom struggle.
