Support The Establishing Of Stroke Units In Sri Lanka

  • Stroke is the commonest cause of adult-onset disability
  • Annually, 60,000 stroke patients are admitted to state hospitals in Sri Lanka
  • But only 15% of them have access to a Stroke Unit
  • Treatment in Stroke units help to reduce death and disability

Mr. D, 30-year-old backhoe operator from Anuradhapura was brought to the emergency of the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital with a sudden onset paralysis of his right side of the body and speech difficulties. He was diagnosed to have suffered a major stroke and despite the emergency treatment by the medical team, he was left with a significant disability.

However, he was transferred to the newly established Stroke Unit in the Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital and underwent stroke rehabilitation to minimize his disability. This Stroke Unit was established using the equipment donated by the National Stroke Association of Sri Lanka with the participation of Roshan Mahanama, a stroke champion of NSASL. This was the first Stroke Unit in the North Central Province.
We need to establish more Stroke Units in the country to help these needy stroke patients to be independent as much as possible and re-integrate them with their family and society. Our initial aim is to establish at least one Stroke Unit in each province and then in each district.

To equip a single Stroke Unit, we are in need of following equipment which costs approximately LKR 5,000,000/=. Please log into our website www.stroke.lk for details and donations.

JOIN US ALONG WITH ROSHAN MAHANAMA TRUST IN OUR MISSION TO BUILD A STROKE UNIT TO GIVE HOPE TO THE STROKE PATIENTS IN SRI LANKA!
