The isolation order in Weyangalla East (818) and Weyangalla West (818 A) Grama Niladari Divisions of the Kalutara District has been lifted with immediate effect, head of the National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak Army Commander General Shavendra Silva said.
Denying the media reports that there would be travel restrictions in areas where the new variant was detected, Primary Health Care, Epidemics and COVID Disease Control State Minister Sudarshani Fernandopulle said the health authorities are closely monitoring the situation and actions would be taken accordingly.
While denying reports that the country would be placed under lockdown in the wake of new COVID-19 variant being detected in several areas in the country, Army Commander Shavendra Silva said appropriate actions would be taken as per the advise of health authorities.
While saying that the Health Ministry has nothing much to do with regard to detection of new variant from several areas, Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said the Ministry was keen in taking necessary steps considering the situation to ensure people are safeguarded.
Health officials yesterday insisted that the coronavirus situation in Sri Lanka was still under control. Deputy Director of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said that although a number of infected people have been found in several parts of the country, it has not spread out of control.
