3,400 irrigation tanks run dry in Anuradhapura

More then 3,400 medium scale tanks in the Anuradhapura District have gone dry due to the prolonged dry spell .   
Provincial Irrigation Engineer Jayantha Herath said the water level in 14 major reservoirs had also dropped.  Director Irrigation, Anuradhapura Zone Jayantha De Silva said drinking water supply and irrigation facilities for agriculture would be affected if the drought persisted and the monsoon rain further delayed.
