Tourist arrivals fall below 100,000 for first time in 2023

Tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka fell below the 100,000 mark for the first time this year, with the month of May welcoming a total of 83, 309 international visitors.

Accordingly, the cumulative tourist arrivals for 1 January to 31 May reached 524, 486, provisional data from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) showed.

The top three tourist traffic generators to Sri Lanka during May were: India, the Russian Federation, and Germany.

Yes, and you shouldn't find that strange at all. Have a look at the ticket prices to fly to Sri Lanka. Then once you have booked your ticket, you need to apply for a VISA. OK done that! Then you go see what you can visit and what does an entrance ticket cost, then you are completely shocked. Climbing a rock, visiting a cave. It will easily cost you USD 35 per person. Not to mention if you want to visit an old city. So if you want to visit this country with your family, you will be poor in one fell swoop and we are not even talking about eating, drinking and sleeping. No, this country just wants to go into the abyss. And do those people in the government now think that foreigners want to pay the bill of the Rajapaksa family? Those Russians who come have no money but are fleeing a war and the Germans who come have been coming for years and usually stay in their own house or rent one. Keep it up Sri Lanka!
