Greenhouse gas verification in Accordance with ISO 14064-1:2018

Greenhouse gases, primarily carbon dioxide and methane, are the culprits behind global warming. The verification of these emissions is critical for several reasons:

  • Firstly, it is about accountability. Accurate verification ensures that governments and industries are transparent about their emissions. It holds them accountable for their environmental impact, fostering responsibility.
  • Secondly, it drives action. When emissions are verified, it becomes clear where reductions are needed most. This data guides policies and initiatives, accelerating our transition to cleaner energy sources and sustainable practices.
  • Thirdly, it empowers individuals and communities. Knowing the true extent of emissions helps us make informed choices, from the cars we drive to the products we buy. This consumer power can drive markets towards greener alternatives.
  • Moreover, it builds trust internationally. In the fight against climate change, global cooperation is paramount. Verified greenhouse gas data is the foundation for international agreements like the Paris Agreement, allowing nations to monitor progress and hold each other accountable.
  • Lastly, it is about our future. By accurately verifying greenhouse gas emissions, we can better understand the impact of our actions on the climate. This knowledge is essential in our mission to protect the planet for future generations.

In conclusion, greenhouse gas verification is not just about numbers; it is about the health of our planet and the well-being of all its inhabitants. It is a critical tool in our collective effort to combat climate change and preserve a sustainable future. For this national requirement, NCPC Sri Lanka has been conducting GHG verifications since 2021 with the accreditation of Sri Lanka Accreditation Board.
