A crucial milestone in the development of Electric Vehicles in Sri Lanka

On behalf of Ruhuna University, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sujeeva Amarasena and Rifkan Siddique, on behalf of Sri Lanka Mobility Pvt. Ltd. signed the MoU

Electric vehicles (EVs) have been gaining huge popularity in recent years, and numbers are expected to soar over the next decade. It is estimated that 40% of new cars sold in Europe will be electric by 2030, thereby setting the wheels in motion for an exciting future. In that background, an MoU between the University of Ruhuna and SL Mobility (Pvt) Ltd is a crucial milestone towards the development of Electric Vehicles in Sri Lanka. The MoU was signed at the Ruhuna University premises last Monday (17).

In line with this, SL Mobility (Pvt) Ltd has pioneered a unique collaboration with the University of Ruhuna, Faculty of Technology to create a one-of-a-kind Electric Vehicle Research and Development (R&D) venture at the university, starting the process towards a fascinating future.

SL Mobility (Pvt) Ltd was formed in collaboration with local and foreign experts who have a thorough knowledge of electric vehicles and are currently working closely with European Universities and the University of Ruhuna Faculty of Technology in Sri Lanka to make electric vehicles a success story.

The joint expertise of SL Mobility and the University of Ruhuna Faculty of Technology is sure to achieve incredible results. SL Mobility will facilitate the provision of high-end European electric vehicle technology and collaborate with foreign universities alongside the University of Ruhuna’s R&D facility.

SL Mobility’s primary objective is to convert the high-pollutant 2-stroke three-wheelers in Sri Lanka to eco-friendly E3Ws (Electric Three Wheelers), with the dual goals of uplifting users socially and economically while helping create a cleaner and healthier environment. This collaboration with the University of Ruhuna Faculty of Technology will enable the technology faculty to adopt the latest technology in collaboration with SL Mobility, build prototypes, and commercialize in the long run. This is a significant step towards a more sustainable future for Sri Lanka, where our reliance on fossil fuels decreases and our use of eco-friendly natural resources is widespread.  SL Mobility (Pvt) Ltd is on the pathway towards aiding the University of Ruhuna Faculty of Technology to become a European Professional Certification Centre for electric vehicles. Beyond that, they look towards cementing a world-class technology centre status for Electric Vehicle research and development. Furthermore, collaborating with the university gives talented students from rural communities in Sri Lanka the tools and opportunity to have their work recognized nationally while helping the communities from which they came.
