Bens OBU to conduct 117th AGM



St. Benedict’s College Old Boys’ Union (OBU) will conduct its 117th Annual General Meeting today (June 25) at the college auditorium.  The OBU is one of the most senior and pioneering Alumni of private Catholic schools.  The college boasts of a proud 157-year-old history of great service to the nation. It is the oldest Catholic school in Sri Lanka and the OBU has been functioning for 117 years offering a loyal service to its alma mater.


The OBU is an efficient, active and participative alumni in Sri Lanka with more than 15 overseas branches in the world.  The OBU organises and initiates projects for the College, for Old Boys, Students, Faculty and all related stake holders, with active involvement from Old Boys.  The OBU has over the past several years carried out many different initiatives, including major CSR projects to help the college, the community and the Staff during the pandemic crisis and also during all difficult times.  In addition the OBU, which is the Prime association of the Old Boys of the College, leads the way in exemplary manner with diverse projects. Prime initiatives of the union are a monthly Pension Scheme for the Past Retired teachers, Launching of the College Affinity Card, Entertainment and Social activities, educational and Strategic activities with unstinted support from Old Boys locally and globally.  The OBU, with its affiliated bodies of the College, carries out various activities for the upliftment of the education, sports, management and soft skills development and very importantly the strategic planning process of the college.


The incumbent Director/Principal of St. Benedict’s College – Rev. Bro. (Dr.) Pubudu Rajapaksha who is also the President of the Old Boys’ Union is leading from the front for the upliftment of the College and the students, faculty and in all aspects of education, sports, spiritual and career development activities.  The college boasts of producing high caliber professionals, artists, senior management personalities and entrepreneurs in leading companies in Sri Lanka and overseas.  The OBU throws its weight behind the school’s administration arm to support all these endeavours with the help of loyal old Benedictines who are contributing by way of strategic thinking, management skills, physically engaged initiatives and projects and also financially, despite challenging situations in the country.


The OBU will continue to drive and initiate progressive and sustainable projects for the benefit of the college, community, old Benedictines, students and the faculty members. The Old Boys’ Union with great contributions from loyal old Bens around the globe will ensure its unconditional support towards the College and development of their students to face the challenges in the future with ever changing global situations.
