While every creator has a unique talent, some creators explore the world of art through different experiments. Danushka Kumaratunga is one such artist who prefers to experiment with his talents and skills. A graphic designer by profession he is also a Creative Director and a talented photographer.
Danushka introduces himself as someone who sees life through art. With his latest publication titled “Essence”, this young artist presents a collection of photographs documenting life in rural settings.
“Before publishing a book I was interested in finding out about mobile photography and doing various experiments. Recently, with the closure of the country, I felt that I could do creative work with mobile photos, so my research and interest came out as a book,” he said.
“I chose the mobile phone to take all those photos. Mobile photography can create something different. I also edited all the images on the phone itself. Essence is a different genre of design, and its page layout is in a Western magazine format. Essence can be described as a creation that can give visual inspiration to the viewer,” Danushka explained.
Danushka believes that Essence is a reading of the freedom and culture we have lost over time. “The villagers from the Knuckles mountain range especially contributed to this publication. It is important to note here that copyright infringement does not work for visual design photographs like in Sri Lanka, so it has become a habit to copy anyone’s creations from the internet. In particular, it was decided to obtain the permission of the photographers for all rights to the mobile book and to give 35% of the proceeds to the children of the village for education. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Anuradha Jayaweera, Dr Udari and all those who helped with the editing and all those who joined me on this journey.”
