Dr. Gananath Dasanayaka, Colombo’s popular Jazz artiste is to release his first Sinhala song “He`nn Kotanaa Kale” on You Tube this Thursday 24th. He dedicates the song to his late grandfather, P R Dasanayaka, to whom he owes the haunting and typically country like lyrics composed in the late 1940s but, restricted to the family and sung to an Old Western melody. 

Interestingly, the lyrics reflect on his weeks in the then wilds of Kongaha Mankada in the Balangoda region, trapping an Elephant under license for domestication; as was quite voguish in those times. The song sung in classicrock style is backed by an exhilarating arrangement of music by Madhawa Perera of “The 88 keys Records”. 

“Henn Kotanaa kale” is bound to add a new flavor to the wide and varied repertoire of Sri Lankan music.
