Dr. L. B. L. De Alwis

It was sad and shocking to come to know of the untimely death on February 21, 2023 of Dr. Lucian Bernard Lalantha de Alwis, retired Chief Consultant Judicial Medical Officer of Colombo. He was the eldest son of the late Mr. Lucian de Alwis, former magistrate and Senior Attorney-at-Law and of Mrs. Monica de Alwis, a scion of the Chevalier C. L. W. Perera dynasty in Kurunegala.

He himself was an esteemed medical legal Doctor while his spouse Dr. Nirmala is a past experienced medical officer. His sons Angelo and Praneeth are both doctors. His only daughter Melanie is a recognised practising Attorney-at-Law.

We have witnessed in Lalantha the profile of a unique personality, a graceful character, an eminent professional, a devout catholic and a patriotic citizen brightened by fulfillment, accomplishments and charity.

The hallmark of his professional career was his standing recognition, prowess and competence in to the forensic field and aspects of the medico legal fraternity

After the demise of his parents Lalantha was a father figure to his family. He was in the constant care of their well-being and welfare ready with assistance and relief; providing support and healthcare and pursuing their progress. Lalantha was lovable and convivial enjoying happy company at weddings, get-togethers and other functions. He was genuine, sincere and amiable. Lalantha viewed with pride and acceptance the attainments and successes in the extended family.

Lalantha was also a welcome Don in Forensic Medicine in the Medical Faculties of many universities including Colombo. His dissertations, lectures, analysis, acumen and references were significantly contained in the books he authored. He will be warmly respected by his many students who will continue to bear pleasant memories of an outstanding guru.

May he be rewarded with benign heavenly blessings in the blissful presence of God Almighty?  (Ronnie)
