The Annual Feast of Pentecost 2024 was celebrated as a rally by associates and membership of the ‘Kithu Dana Pubuduwa’ – The Apostolate of Renewal, recently. It was held in the Prayer Stadium of Sri Prasansaramaya at Walpola, Ragama.
All who came had followed a preparatory novena (a devotion consisting of prayers or services on nine consecutive days) in their various communities. Each of the nine days contemplated different ideas related to the main theme of the rally, ‘Behold, the womb that bore the Son of God’. Thousands participated (physically and online via YouTube live stream) from all local and international areas where the ‘Kithu Dana Pubuduwa’ had an active presence. Some travelled for almost 12 hours to come to Sri Prasansaramaya, but they all enthusiastically came despite many obstacles. Some came carrying infants and small children. They came with the great hope of encountering the Risen Lord Jesus Christ and the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
As the participants for the rally entered the Sri Prasansaramaya, they were greeted by the playing of “Raban” which uplifted their spirits after a long journey from their homes. From the stage, The Pubuduwa Choir and instrumentalists supported them in contributing to the festive atmosphere in a very profoundly. The people arriving were warmly greeted and welcomed in all three languages from the stage. Those already gathered participated in the welcoming through applause.

Following the introduction and solemn invitation to the rally, the participation of the “Hewisi Drummers” and dancers added colour to the proceedings.
This segued into one of the main segments of the rally which was an extended time of “Praise & Worship” lasting two hours.
The program flowed meaningfully including dances, a talk in Tamil, and a recording of a talk of our founder, Late Rev. Fr. Siri Oscar Abayaratne, our beloved Swami Thaaththa. Whilst various items of the rally thus unfolded, the simply decorated stage seemed to cast its benevolent gaze at all that was happening.
The next significant item on the program was the “Theme Talk” which was attentively listened to by all those who attended the rally. Proceeding this, the “annual theme hymn” was sung in Sinhala and Tamil.
The next item to follow was the “Great Ceremony of Light” where the blessed flame from the Easter Candle was distributed from candle to candle till everyone present was holding a lighted candle, uniting once more in common prayer and praise.
The day concluded with the Holy Mass being concelebrated by all the priests who had come to participate in the festive celebrations.
The celebration of the Feast of Pentecost for the year 2024 came to a close with a time of celebratory song and dance and a “Great Amen” by the entire people present.
From the stage, The Pubuduwa Choir and musicians supported them in contributing to the festive atmosphere in a very significant manner
