Life will be happier if one refrains from fulfilling desires: Jayantha

Listening patiently to others and tolerating their views would be the key to success and that the individuals, who ignored the views of others and strictly adhered to their whims and fancies would not serve any purpose, Member of the Western Provincial Council Jayantha De Silva said.
Addressing a ceremony at the Serpentine Road Pre-School which was modernized and declared open, the Provincial Council member said one would end up in failure if he/she attempted to fulfil one’s 
infinite desires. 
“Our desires and expectations are limitless and it is not possible to gain them. Individuals who attempt to gain such limitless desires and expectations in life would resort to illegal activities. This would bring ruin to him and his family,” he said 
“Life would be happier, fuller and pleasanter if one refrained from endeavours to fulfil one’s desires and be content with what he gets. As enunciated by the Bauddha One must get rid of desires and craving.”
“The people, who are not prepared to listen to others and strictly adhere to their misconceptions, would only create a generation heading for disaster. If we refrain from such stubbornness and act with mutual understanding we can lead ourselves along the right path. I as a politician am not free from desires, but I would not resort to misdemeanours to fulfil them. I know I have my limits. Politicians are not immune to punishment for their sins and it should be understood,” he said. 
He said it was rarely that the services men dedicated to service gained recognition. He pointed out that the individuals who resorted to boastful propaganda commanded high recognition and that it only brought ruin to society and the country as well. 
The children, their parents and the staff of the Pre-School were present on the occasion.
