MinorMatters will soon be launching Sri Lanka’s first ever online dashboard of case law on Freedom of Religion or Belief (FoRB). The online portal has been designed as a free resource for lawyers, law students, and interested individuals who are keen on learning about FoRB jurisprudence in Sri Lanka.

The online dashboard provides a search feature where users input keywords and terms that connect them to an online database of both Sri Lankan and International cases on FoRB. This provides a key understanding of not only how local jurisprudence has progressed, but also how other jurisdictions have handled FoRB both regionally and internationally. The website also features an active blog that give users an introduction to FoRB and anaylses key judgements on FoRB.

While adding that “increasing FoRB literacy among lawyers is crucial to litigate for different faith groups”, Campaigns Director at MinorMatters, Yamini Ravindran, comments that “understanding FoRB and legal provisions that allow FoRB is imperative to strategically litigating for all faith groups.”

MinorMatters is a national campaign that seeks to strengthen FoRB and promote religious harmony in Sri Lanka. Set up in 2018, the campaign also supports efforts to advance reconciliation, and promote social cohesion. The online portal is to be launched by mid-September.
